Listening to Indigenous Voices
Tuesday 13 February, 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm in the Habitat Library, Minona St Auburn
We wish you all a happy and fruitful New Year.
Our next Listening to Indigenous Voices will take place in the Library on Tuesday of February (13th) from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Note the slightly later time as discussed at our last meeting. We thought that it would be great if we talked about our directions for 2018. We welcome your input.
We will continue what we consider to be an essential core of living in Australia in the twenty-first century, namely, Listening to Indigenous voices.
This perspective includes the following:
Listening to the voice of the first peoples of Australia, their stories and perspectives,
Relating to our own indigenous voice, through story and myth,
Relating to the land in the light of the sharing of the first peoples and our own cultural heritage, including the sorrow and injustice.
We will begin the evening with a meditative process leading into exploring and sharing the above perspectives, others and our connections with Aboriginal communities and issues both locally and interstate.
A Retreat and Tour
- As mentioned a couple of times, Eleni has offered to host a retreat in Dunkeld this June, with our support, as a way to deepen the Indigenous conversation and connection to country. We hope to confirm with people on the night if this is something we would like to do as a group.
- Julie will be joining Jemila and Friends of the Earth on a tour of South Australia in April as part of a Radioactive Exposure Tour. There may still be spots available if you would like to come along. The Radioactive Exposure Tour is a journey through Australia’s nuclear landscape. The Tour has exposed thousands of people to the realities of ‘radioactive racism’ and the environmental and social impacts of uranium mining, radioactive waste and nuclear bomb testing. http://shop.foe.org.au/radioactive-exposure-tour-2018/
Hope to see you on the night. Please RSVP to help us prepare for the evening.
